Malawi’s finance team is working overtime in Seoul—turning the KOAFEC conference into a deal-making hub for grants, investment and technical support.
Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamvekha has met with AfDB President Sidi Ould Tah and South Korea’s Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Jinsung Moon to push for resources to boost Malawi’s budget.
“The meeting has offered us an opportunity to engage further with the Bank but also the Korean government.
The two partners are willing to partner us in our development efforts,” said the minister, who also shared investment opportunities available in Malawi with the Korean deputy minister of finance.
“Korea says it is ready to explore investment opportunities in Malawi but also help us with skills transfer in technology. This is important if we are to create a productive economy,” said the minister.
Minister Moon said Korea remains committed to supporting African partners, positioning Malawi to tap into grants, concessional loans and private-sector opportunities that could boost key sectors.
